The signature of the Yucatan’s Caribbean coast is the sandy, white beaches with seaward coral reefs, coastal lagoons and cenotes (limestone swallow hole pools).
In comparison to the busy, high-rise Cancun, the 40-mile division of coastline between Playa del Carmen and Tulum tenders many cloistered areas and less-developed resorts with a good proportion of quiet and convenience.
Playa del Carmen is situated 40 miles south of Cancun. It is well set up, with no high-rise hotels. Playa’s most impressing assets are the alabaster-white beach with its offshore reef, and two main streets with assortment shops, restaurants, and resorts.
The small dock renders ferry service with Cozumel.
